Disaster
Services Human Resource System (DSHR)
Disaster volunteers that are enrolled in the DSHR system are
willing to receive training in their field of interest. These
volunteers must also commit to 3 weeks of volunteer work on
a national assignment. Assignments vary with location and
degrees of hardship. All expenses are paid by the American
Red Cross. State of Louisiana employees enrolled in the system
are eligible to go on state assignments for 3 weeks without
losing pay or time.
Community
Disaster Education Presenters
Community Disaster Education (CDE) Presenters are responsible
for presenting disaster preparedness and prevention information
to community groups, schools, and church groups. CDE presenters
are also responsible for distributing information at public
events such as festivals, fairs, and community events. Evenings,
weekends and holidays may be required.
International
Services Coordinator
The coordinator is responsible for developing, guiding and
promoting the International Services at our local chapter.
You will work directly with the college and international
groups to promote the services and educate the community on
the services provided by the chapter. You will work directly
with the Director of Emergency Services. Evenings, weekends
and holidays may be required.
Armed
Forces Liaison
The liaison will work directly with the branches of the armed
forces to ensure Red Cross information is being disseminated
to service members and their families through the branches.
You will also maintain contact with all local military officers
to enhance the relationship between the local chapter and
the military. As liaison, you will also recommend new programs
and services to be offered by the Red Cross. You will work
directly with the Director of Emergency Services and the AFES
Coordinator. Evenings, weekends and holidays may be required.

Health
and Safety Volunteer Instructor
Health and Safety instructors are required to attend a one-week
training session to become an authorized instructor for the
American Red Cross. Once certified, you can teach Adult, Infant,
Child CPR and First Aid, workplace training modules, and other
Red Cross courses. You can also transition to teach Pet CPR,
Babysitting, and Sport Safety Training. Once certified, you
can work first aid stations at community events. Volunteer
instructors are needed to teach classes at the chapter and
throughout northeast Louisiana. Classes are offered during
the week, in the evenings, and on Saturdays.
Health
and Safety Education Presenters
Education presenters in health and safety teach Basic Aid
Training, First Aid for Children Today, and water safety courses
to children in schools, community organizations, churches,
etc. Evenings, weekends and holidays may be required.
